Resume SamplesCreating your resume

Getting ready to begin a new job search? Looking to make change? Or do you just want to test the waters and see what is out there? The first step is brushing up (or creating) your resume. There a number of different ways to approach building your resume. Your situation can determine which resume type is best for you:

Chronological résumé

This is the most common type used with your most recent work history displayed first and working back. Chronological is easy to follow but, may not be best for those with gaps in the work history. Chronological Resume Sample

Functional résumé

These types are best for those with gaps in their employment history or are looking to make a career change. They are meant to showcase your skills and accomplishments instead of where and when you worked. Functional Resume Sample

Combination résumé

Combination’s use both chronological and functional aspects. Generally your skills are displayed first followed by your work history. These are also good for those with gaps in work history or looking to making a change. Combination Resume Sample

Targeted résumé

If your skills and background are an exact match for the job you are applying this may be your best bet. A targeted resume specifies how your experiences relate to the position. Although this requires more work revamping your resume for a certain position, it can help stand out from other “cookie cutter” resumes. Targeted Resume Sample

Mini résumé

A condensed version of your regular resume, the mini resume is best in networking situations (and even career fairs). These are often in business card format with your contact information on one side and a profile on the other.  Mini Resume Sample

Curriculum Vitae (CV)

A curriculum vitae is generally longer than a chronological resume by including presentations, publications, research, affiliations and memberships. CVs are most often seen with doctors, scientists, professors, and attorneys. CV Sample
